Baker County ARES/RACES operates within the framework of the Baker County Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security. As of July 2007 the program consists of 13 volunteers all registered with the State of Oregon. We have adopted the Amateur Radio Communications Team (ARCT) concept. Each of our members can operate solo (ARCT Type IV) or in small teams (ARCT Type III).
Several of the members are trained to operate the County's NIMS Type IV mobile communications unit (MCU) and the NIMS Type III command trailer. Both are maintained by the Baker County Consolidated 9-1-1 Dispatch Center. (see www.baker911.org for more information)
Baker
County's ARES/RACES team exists primarily to support shelter to headquarters
communications on behalf of the Eastern Oregon Chapter of the American Red
Cross and to handle health and welfare traffic for the general public.
Prospective members are requested to complete ICS 100 as well as the ARRL's
